Garrison Hawk was born and raised in Manchester, Jamaica, where he got his start DJing in his uncle’s basement for an audience that included his 3 brothers and 3 sisters. After moving to the rough and tumble Bronx in New York City as a teenager Hawk wasted no time, independently releasing 9 singles that would garner significant airplay on New York’s most notorious hip-hop radio station, Hot 97 FM. The attention he received landed him support slots for Shabba Ranks and Supercat, and eventually a prized gig in the band of Tricky, formerly of the legendary Massive Attack.
As a member of Tricky’s band, Hawk’s voice was featured on 6 tracks (which he also co-wrote) on 2001’s “Blowback” record, and Hawk was featured in the accompanying music video for the hit single “Evolution Revolution Love,” which also featured Ed Kowalczyk of the band Live. He toured with Tricky in support of the record all over the world for two years. As a member of Tricky’s band, Hawk performed in front of audiences of thousands of fans in the European festival circuit, as well as national TV spots in the US on the Conan O’Brien and Craig Kilborn late-night shows.
Having stockpiled an arsenal of over 100 original songs, demos, and collaborations, the time had come for Hawk to strike out on his own. For his debut solo album, Hawk went into the studio with an all-star production team, including the legendary reggae producers Sly & Robbie (Sean Paul / No Doubt / Shaggy) and Dan Carey (Kylie / Sia / Emiliana Torrini), as well as a host of accomplished Jamaican musicians. The result is a truly original hybrid of Reggae, Pop, and vintage Jamaican dancehall. See for yourself.
